The New York City Law Department is now accepting applications from admitted attorneys for an Associate Counsel to work in the Office of the Counsel to the Mayor .The Office of the Counsel to the Mayor provides legal guidance to the Mayor and City Hall staff on compliance, ethics, freedom of information (FOIL), legislation and policy matters and ensures the Mayor’s policy priorities are advanced in accordance with the law. The key tasks of the Associate Counsel includes, but is are not limited to: Analyzing and interpreting laws, court decisions, legal authorities, and other legal documents; Drafting and revising legislation to ensure consistency with Mayoral priorities; Assuring compliance with conflict of interest rules; Vetting candidates for City offices; Assisting in the development of legal policies and other government initiatives; Supervising the FOIL team, balancing priorities and supervising projects; and Responding to a broad array of legal inquiries from staff and city agencies. This position requires a dedication to client services, willingness to be responsive and may require the Associate Counsel to work late hours and weekends as needed.
Applicants must be admitted to the New York State Bar and have at least three years of full time, satisfactory legal experience. Applicants must also have superior project managements skills, excellent legal writing, communication, and research skills, and a demonstrated ability to be a team player in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
