Lambda Legal seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as a full-time Help Desk Specialist, primarily responsible for responding to calls, e-mails and letters to Lambda Legal’s Help Desk seeking resources and legal assistance. This position focuses on laws and discrimination affecting families with LGBT members and families that include people living with HIV. Though a range of areas core to Lambda Legal’s mission will be involved in the Help Desk Specialist’s work, the position requires willingness to learn about family law, particularly the legal rights of LGBT parents and LGBT children.
The Help Desk Specialist will also champion the legal work that Lambda Legal does on behalf of families including people who are LGBT or living with HIV by presenting publicly at community events and conferences to further Lambda Legal’s mission to secure justice for our communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Help Desk Specialist’s primary role will be to field, screen, respond to and develop requests for assistance. The Help Desk Specialist will also maintain and update family law legal resources from around the country. The Help Desk Specialist must be prepared to respond to and develop a high volume of intake requests and interact respectfully with a diverse population in a sensitive and professional manner. The Help Desk Specialist should be enthusiastic about demonstrating subject matter expertise and passion for Lambda Legal’s mission through work with groups and organizations that focus on LGBT and HIV-related family law issues, and with community and government leaders.
- Commitment to protecting the rights of LGBT individuals and people living with HIV
- Excellent writing, verbal and analytical skills, including the ability to communicate orally and in writing in a courteous and professional manner
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Outlook, internet research)
- Counseling skills or experience with other phone help lines or volunteer management desirable
- Relevant experience in the legal profession and family law experience desirable
- Bilingual capacity (Spanish/English) required
