The New York Civil Court’s Housing Part is now soliciting applications for Housing Court judgeships that will open during 2015, the part’s advisory council announced.
Housing Court judges are appointed for a five-year term with an annual salary of $146,900. The Housing Part is comprised of about 50 judges overseen by Deputy Chief Administrative Judge Fern Fisher.
Potential applicants must have been admitted to the state bar for at least five years, including two full years of practice. They should also be knowledgeable or have experience in federal, state and local housing laws and programs.
Housing Court proceedings include disputes between landlords and tenants on issues such as housing conditions, defaults in rent payments, and enforcement of state and local housing rules.
Applications will be accepted through Aug. 15. Those interested must complete a questionnaire before applying. To request it, write to Judge Fisher, Civil Court of the City of New York, Room 1240, 111 Centre St., New York, NY 10013.
