Governor Kathy Hochul has designated Judge Elena Goldberg Velazquez as an Additional Justice of the New York State Appellate Division, Second Department, marking a significant milestone in Judge Goldberg Velazquez’s distinguished judicial career.
Judge Goldberg Velazquez currently serves on the Appellate Term for the 9th and 10th Judicial Districts, having been appointed in 2024. Her latest designation to the Appellate Division reflects her strong record of service, deep legal experience, and unwavering commitment to justice.
She was elected to the New York State Supreme Court for the 9th Judicial District in 2022 and is currently assigned in Westchester County. Prior to her Supreme Court role, Judge Goldberg Velazquez served as a Yonkers City Court Judge, where she presided over a wide range of cases. She was also appointed as Acting Family Court Judge, overseeing matters in the Integrated Domestic Violence Court.
“Judge Goldberg Velazquez brings not only an exceptional legal background to the bench, but also a unique and important perspective shaped by her years of service at every level of our state’s judiciary,” said Governor Hochul. “Her elevation is part of my continued commitment to building a judiciary that reflects both the diversity and excellence of New York.”
