PARA PUBLICACIÓN INMEDIATA
January 8, 2026
The Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA) commends the Mamdani Administration for the appointment of Andrés Casas to the bench, a consequential and well-earned advancement that strengthens judicial representation and institutional credibility.
Judge Casas, a proud Staten Islander, is an inaugural member of the Staten Island Hispanic Bar Association and most recently served as a Court Attorney to the Honorable Raymond Rodriguez, Administrative Judge of Staten Island and a longtime PRBA member. Both Judge Casas and Judge Rodriguez are former felony prosecutors, bringing to the bench extensive courtroom experience, sound judgment, and a demonstrated commitment to public safety and due process.
The PRBA has consistently emphasized that a judiciary reflective of New York’s communities is not aspirational—it is operationally necessary. This appointment advances that objective and reinforces confidence in the administration of justice.
The PRBA applauds the Mamdani Administration for continuing to elevate highly qualified Latino jurists and underscores the ongoing need for increased representation at all levels of the judiciary.
This appointment represents a meaningful milestone for the Latino community, for New Yorkers, and for the legal profession as a whole.
