Zayas anunci\u00f3 el nombramiento de la Honorable Elena Goldberg-Vel\u00e1zquez para el T\u00e9rmino de Apelaciones de la Corte Suprema, Segundo Departamento, en los Distritos Judiciales Noveno y D\u00e9cimo. El nombramiento fue hecho con la aprobaci\u00f3n del Juez Presidente de la Divisi\u00f3n de Apelaciones, Segundo Departamento, Hector D. LaSalle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La jueza Goldberg-Vel\u00e1zquez es la primera jueza latina del Noveno Distrito Judicial que forma parte del Tribunal, que conoce de apelaciones de casos originados en los Tribunales de la Ciudad y de Justicia, y en los Tribunales de Distrito de los condados de Nassau y Suffolk. Despu\u00e9s de trabajar en la pr\u00e1ctica privada, se uni\u00f3 al sistema judicial en 2010 como abogada judicial en la Divisi\u00f3n de Apelaciones, Primer Departamento. En 2019, fue elegida para el Tribunal de la Ciudad de Yonkers, manejando una gama de asuntos civiles y penales. Fue designada jueza interina del Tribunal de Familia, presidiendo la Parte Integrada de Violencia Dom\u00e9stica del Tribunal de la Ciudad de Yonkers, llevando a cabo audiencias, investigaciones de hechos y juicios en custodia de menores y otros casos, adem\u00e1s de escuchar asuntos penales relacionados. Posteriormente fue elegida para el Tribunal Supremo del Estado en el Noveno Distrito Judicial del Condado de Orange, donde ha presidido un apretado calendario que comprende una serie de asuntos civiles, incluyendo negligencia m\u00e9dica, matrimoniales, lesiones personales y casos de derecho laboral, entre otros.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entre sus muchas afiliaciones y actividades profesionales, es ex presidenta del Colegio de Abogados de Puerto Rico, miembro de la junta de la Asociaci\u00f3n de Jueces Latinos y presidenta de su Comit\u00e9 CLE; miembro del Comit\u00e9 de Diversidad del Colegio de Abogados del Estado de Nueva York y del Comit\u00e9 Legislativo de la Asociaci\u00f3n de Jueces del Tribunal Supremo del Estado de Nueva York; y ex copresidenta de la gala anual del Gremio de Abogados Jud\u00edos.  Tambi\u00e9n fue mentora de la Comisi\u00f3n Judicial Franklin H.
