Dear Members and Friends:
It is a tremendous honor to be re-elected and serve as your 65th President and follow in the footsteps of the extraordinary jurists, public officials, and practitioners who preceded me. I stand on the shoulders of my predecessors and, arm-and-arm with my fellow officers and directors, will continue the PRBA’s leadership role in community service, mentorship for new and developing attorneys, and inclusivity that allows for greater access to positions within the larger legal community.
The PRBA was founded in 1957 to serve the burgeoning Puerto Rican community in New York City by providing a home for Puerto Rican and Latino attorneys who had been denied membership in other organizations. Sixty-five years later we continue to provide this home.
As we did last year, the Association will continue to provide events, CLE programming, and social gatherings, including the Gala. Our events will be virtual and in-person when appropriate, as we emerge from the grips of the worst pandemic in a century that has robbed us of nearly a million loved ones. We will also continue to award scholarships to help Puerto Rican and Latino law students with a connection to New York State to assist in their education.
I am incredibly thankful to all our members who continue to support the Association and its mission, through offering the “Three T’s”: their time, talents, and treasures. I am also thankful to our sponsors, both longtime and those who just joined us on this journey.
In these times of crisis, it is important to look forward. There will be a better tomorrow and the Puerto Rican Bar Association will be with you every step of the way as we get there.
Wishing everyone a safe and healthy year.
Hasta pronto,
Steven M. Cordero, Esq.
65th President of the Puerto Rican Bar Association
