** New York State Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts Renamed for Pioneering Justice Betty Weinberg Ellerin **

The New York State Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts, established in 1986 to advocate for gender equality and address bias in the state’s courts, has been renamed in honor of pioneering Justice Betty Weinberg Ellerin. At a recent meeting in Manhattan, Chief Judge Rowan D. Wilson, First Deputy Chief Administrative Judge Norman St. George and newly appointed Committee Co-Chair Justice Llinet Rosado and others paid tribute to Justice Ellerin’s leadership.

The renamed committee continues its mission, addressing various concern of women in the legal system, from litigants to court employees. Justice Ellerin, a trailblazer for women’s rights, has dedicated her career to fostering opportunities for women in law. Her legacy is celebrated through this renaming, acknowledging her lifelong commitment to equality.
